What Is a Modular Operation Theatre?

A modular operation theatre (Modular OT) is a purpose-built surgical space assembled from pre-fabricated wall, ceiling, and floor panels rather than constructed entirely on-site using conventional masonry. The panels, along with the electrical wiring, medical gas lines, and lighting fixtures, are manufactured off-site and then installed and joined together within the hospital, which speeds up construction and results in a tightly sealed, easy-to-clean environment.

Central to how a modular OT functions is a Laminar Air Flow system mounted in the ceiling. This continuously pushes filtered, bacteria-free air downward under positive pressure across the operating area, which helps keep airborne contaminants away from the surgical site throughout a procedure.
